This is the second episode of In Between Spins - the monthly new music portion of the eduPUNX Podcast! If you remember from January, it's a collaboration with my friend Jaclyn O'Connell - who is launching her project, In Between Spins VERY SOON! Read below for more information!

This week, we welcomed our friend, Christine Varialle, the editor-in-chief of Allston Pudding, to the podcast to discuss our current favorite albums of 2018 - we know, we know, the year is still very fresh, but there have been plenty of great releases so far! AND we discuss some of the albums that are yet to be released this year and speculate on some that may or may not come our way this year.

You could say, Vince Filak has been on the forefront of journalism education for a few years now.

This is a special episode of the eduPUNX Podcast focused on fake news. Katy, Craig, and Vince get into what is fake news, what is satire, and what is misinformation. Katy and Craig ask Vince a few of the what-about-isms that have been thrown around these days.

As a reminder, Vince recently released his latest book, "Dynamics of News Reporting & Writing: Foundations for a Digital Age," which is now the Number one book on Amazon's list of new Journalism books! It's such a perfect release because we dig into a lot of the intricacies of what it has been like for Vince to learn the evolution of journalism alongside the development of social media and other digital technologies.

This week, Katy and I bring you another sit-down in-person conversation from our recent trip to Wisconsin! We're chatting with Vince Filak, who is a Professor of Journalism at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. He was previously a Professor at Ball State and did his doctoral education at the University of Missouri - where he oversaw the university newspaper, which is what he currently does at UW Oshkosh as well! And that's how Vince and Katy are connected! Katy used to be one of Vince's students - in class and on the newspaper! So, you get to hear the two of them reminisce a lot about their time together, and Vince shares lots of stories of his time as a professional journalist, scholar, writer, and educator.

Francesca Olsen is a multi-talented higher education professional who works at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. She is also the frontwoman for the western Mass two-piece band, House Sparrow. In this episode of the podcast, Craig and Francesca dive into the world of social media in higher education, as well as what it is like to tour and play gigs as a professional staff member. Today's guest is the wonderful, Brittany Williams. Brittany is a PhD candidate at the University of Georgia, studying College Student Services. Brittany is a former Student Affairs Professional in Higher Education and shines a number of bright lights on some issues that are incredibly salient to her professional experiences as a black woman. Brittany brings up a number of topics during the next hour, including white privilege, social media activism, entering academia as a black woman, and the first generation struggle. We hope you enjoy this conversation - it took a number of rescheduling dates/technical difficulties, but we made it happen and we did the thing!
