WELCOME TO THE EDUPUNX PODCAST

Mike Fox is the Assistant Director of Student and Family Engagement at Bristol Community College - he’s a great example of authentic leadership and an all-around great dude. Mike and I became acquainted six years ago when Katy started working with him at Lesley and we’ve been in touch ever since! He’s also always been a big supporter of my public speaking career so I’m glad to finally give him a platform!

Mike and I discuss the importance on entertainment on college campuses, how the pandemic have shifted our jobs, and what it means to be an authentic leader. We also get into a lengthy conversation on vinyl, vinyl collecting, and music, in general. i had a lot of fun catching up with mike and I hope you enjoy this episode!

Nick Bates is the Assistant Director of Student Life at Loyola University Maryland. Nick is a sage human being with a love of appreciating the people around him and imparting knowledge onto his students, friends, and colleagues. And that's exactly what happens in this episode! I learned a lot in this episode - and I definitely do a lot of reflecting in the moment.

I'm most thankful that Nick visited me at UMass Boston to have this conversation because it was great to chat in person - so you get to hear the buzz of my campus, which is awesome. We dig into the topics of gender, masculinity, having grace with students as they're learning, receiving and giving compliments, and the importance educating and cultivating the greatness of men of color.

14: Katy Hamm & Mental Health in the Workplace

WELCOME BACK TO THE EDUPUNX PODCAST!

This week is a special episode for a few reasons! Primarily, I get to chat with my best friend and partner, Katy Hamm. Also, it's a week where we get to talk about one of my favorite topics - mental health. Well, it's one of OUR favorite topics because Katy and I talk about mental health almost every single day - so it was nice to record a chat with them this week.

Katy is the Student Activities Coordinator at Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass - where feelings and mental health are consistent topics of conversation. Katy does a lot of work to destigmatize mental health in the workplace, so they're bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to this conversation. And we hope you enjoy this week's episode!

CONTENT WARNING: We dive into the topics of depression, anxiety, traumas, PTSD, and suicidality within this episode, which might be triggering for some listeners.

1: Kevin Forch & Community College Access

WELCOME TO EPISODE ONE OF THE EDUPUNX POD!

Today I chat with my friend, Kevin Forch, the Director for Student Success at Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska. Kevin agreed to be my guinea pig for this project, and for that, I am incredibly thankful. I am still figuring out the pace for the podcast, but I think this a great start! Kevin and I discuss a WIDE range of topics outside of the simple yet broad, "community college access." There was too much to include in a simple headline. But we definitely dig into some real-life topics like being non-traditional grad students, working with non-traditional students, being adults, millennial-shaming, and the reality of being a somewhat lone progressive in a very red state like Nebraska and the types of learning and unlearning of which that consists.
